Dear Trans Pride Washington DC Community,
I hope this letter finds you well and thriving. As we move forward in 2025, I am delighted to share the exciting news about our upcoming Trans Pride Washington DC event, taking place on May 17, 2025. It fills me with immense joy and pride to witness the growth and vibrancy of our community, and I am honored to serve as your Executive Director.
Our first in-person, post-COVID Trans Pride event in 2023 was a testament to the strength, resilience, and unity that define us. The outpouring of support from all corners of the community was truly heartwarming. This year, we aim to build on that success and make Trans Pride Washington DC even more memorable.
However, we must also acknowledge the increasing challenges facing our community. Over the past few months, we have seen a troubling rise in executive orders and legislative actions targeting transgender and queer individuals across the country. These policies threaten access to gender-affirming healthcare, legal recognition, and fundamental rights that should be afforded to all people, regardless of gender identity. Now more than ever, it is crucial for us to stand together in solidarity, resist these harmful measures, and advocate for the rights and dignity of every trans and queer person.
Trans Pride Washington DC is not just a celebration; it is a powerful act of resistance and affirmation. As we gather on May 17, we will not only celebrate our identities but also equip ourselves with the tools and knowledge to fight for justice.
I am thrilled to share some highlights of what you can expect at this year's Trans Pride:
Community Empowerment Workshops: Through our workshop proposal process, we will curate a series of workshops led by community leaders and experts in various fields to empower our community members. Topics will range from legal name change and gender clinic access to personal and professional development and self-care. In light of recent legal attacks, we will also include sessions focused on legal advocacy and policy navigation to help protect our community’s rights.
Support and Resources: Trans Pride Washington DC is committed to providing resources and support for our community members. Whether it's connecting with healthcare providers, legal resources, or support groups, we want to ensure that everyone has access to the assistance they need, especially in the face of discriminatory policies.
Inclusive Entertainment: Enjoy a day filled with music, performances, and entertainment that reflect the rich tapestry of our community. Our artistic expression is a form of resilience, and we will showcase talented performers who inspire and uplift us all.
I encourage you to mark your calendars for May 17, 2025, and join us for a day of celebration, empowerment, and unity. Let us create an atmosphere of love and acceptance that extends far beyond the event itself.
As we navigate through the challenges and triumphs of the year ahead, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity. Trans Pride Washington DC is more than an event; it is a movement, a celebration, and a symbol of our collective power.
Thank you for being an integral part of our community. I look forward to celebrating the Trans Pride Washington DC event with you all and witnessing the continued growth and resilience of our community.
With love and solidarity 🏳️⚧️
